Jonas Peterson is a photographer whose work I’ve struggled with. Like a record from a band that, while you might not necessarily “like”, contains distinctly unique qualities. The “challenging” art.
Jonas Peterson is based in Brisbane, Australia, but travels extensively to carry out his unique brand of wedding photography. He makes this blog’s list of great wedding photographers not for his pretty colors or post-processing abilities. No, one might even describe Jonas Peterson’s work as “raw”, “earthy”, or even “gritty”. Dare I use a word as pretentious as “visceral”? For wedding photography, these are not usually words on the list of “top bridal looks”. Still, Jonas’ photography has a certain natural appeal. It is not a glossy magazine portrait staring back from the page in airbrushed perfection. Jonas’ photos come straight from the film-grained heart. His strength is in imaginative composition and seeing scenes in ways others don’t, and that’s why I believe he’ll continue as a great wedding photographer.
